<abstract>This spatial dataset shows point locations for male and female Florida black bears (Ursus americanus floridanus) wearing WildCell GPS/SMS collars from Lotek Wireless Inc. that were captured and collared in and around the Camp Blanding Wildlife Management Area in north central Florida. These locations were collected by FWC staff as part of the study “Black Bear Habitat Use in Camp Blanding Wildlife Management Area and Movements within the Ocala to Osceola Linkage” under contract by the Department of Military Affairs, Florida Army National Guard. The objectives of the study were to: identify current black bear spatial patterns and movements in Camp Blanding WMA and the Ocala to Osceola Corridor (O2O) to reveal core habitat and seasonal habitat use patterns and important food resources that drive movements across the fragmented landscape; identify lands of high conservation value within the O2O corridor to help plan for restoring and maintaining connectivity; and to assess black bear reproduction.</abstract>

<procdesc>1. A Google Maps application was developed for observers to enter sighting data attributes. An advertising campaign was launched (e.g., press release, posting on FWC website) to inform observers of where and how to submit reports.</procdesc>

<procdesc>2.	DATA PROCESSING: The original dataset from each bear collar was collected by cellular telephone towers and transmitted through a Lotek base station to a computer. The files were converted from native format to a database (.dbf file) using a Lotek program “Total Host”. The data were cleaned to remove locations of the collar prior to bear’s capture or after removal from bear and low quality locations (“NAV” was not “3D” or “Validated” was not “yes”). Files for each bear were then combined into a single Microsoft Excel file, the FWC GIS data manager later converted this file into a shapefile. 1. The following fields were removed: A.LINE_NO (line number of original dataset);
B.SATS_USED (defined as the number of satellites used but often listed as zero for this collar model, even on successful locations)
C.CH1_SATID (satellite number used in GPS receiver channel #1, always zero on these collars)
D.CH1_C_N (carrier to noise value, in dBHz, of this channel)
E.CH2_SATID (satellite number used in GPS receiver channel #2, always zero on these collars)
F.CH2_C_N (carrier to noise value, in dBHz, of this channel)

<idAbs>This spatial dataset shows point locations for male and female Florida black bears (Ursus americanus floridanus) wearing WildCell GPS/SMS collars from Lotek Wireless Inc. that were captured and collared in and around the Camp Blanding Wildlife Management Area in north central Florida. These locations were collected by FWC staff as part of the study “Black Bear Habitat Use in Camp Blanding Wildlife Management Area and Movements within the Ocala to Osceola Linkage” under contract by the Department of Military Affairs, Florida Army National Guard. The objectives of the study were to: identify current black bear spatial patterns and movements in Camp Blanding WMA and the Ocala to Osceola Corridor (O2O) to reveal core habitat and seasonal habitat use patterns and important food resources that drive movements across the fragmented landscape; identify lands of high conservation value within the O2O corridor to help plan for restoring and maintaining connectivity; and to assess black bear reproduction.</idAbs>

<stepDesc>2. DATA PROCESSING: The original dataset from each bear collar was collected by cellular telephone towers and transmitted through a Lotek base station to a computer. The files were converted from native format to a database (.dbf file) using a Lotek program “Total Host”. The data were cleaned to remove locations of the collar prior to bear’s capture or after removal from bear and low quality locations (“NAV” was not “3D” or “Validated” was not “yes”). Files for each bear were then combined into a single Microsoft Excel file, the FWC GIS data manager later converted this file into a shapefile. 1.
