<abstract>This dataset contains fish ranges for 33 fish species in Florida. The dataset is used as the source data for the Fish Range Finder web application available on the FWRI website GIS and Mapping section.</abstract>
<purpose>To provide fish location information to Florida anglers.</purpose>
<supplinf>Prior to July 1, 2004, the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute (FWRI) was known as the Florida Marine Research Institute (FMRI). The institute name has not been changed in historical data sets or references to work completed by the Florida Marine Research Institute. The institute name has been changed in references to ongoing research, new research, and contact information.</supplinf>

<procdate>2018/06/01</procdate>
<procdesc>Biologists from FWC’s Division of Freshwater Fisheries provided a spreadsheet containing Florida Big Catch fish species by county for 2018. FWRI staff made the necessary changes to the spreadsheet to facilitate attribute queries and insure compatibility with ArcMap. The table was then imported into ArcMap and joined to an existing 500,000 scale Florida County shapefile. Lastly, the shapefile was re-projected to Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere projection and exported to a new feature class. </procdesc>

<stepDesc>Biologists from FWC’s Division of Freshwater Fisheries provided a spreadsheet containing Florida Big Catch fish species by county for 2018. FWRI staff made the necessary changes to the spreadsheet to facilitate attribute queries and insure compatibility with ArcMap. The table was then imported into ArcMap and joined to an existing 500,000 scale Florida County shapefile. Lastly, the shapefile was re-projected to Web Mercator Auxiliary Sphere projection and exported to a new feature class.</stepDesc>
