<collTitle>Digital Area Contingency Plans for Oil and Hazardous Material Spill Response</collTitle>
</idCitation>
<idAbs>

These data have been created to spatially represent the placement of mechanical collection devices such as vacuum trucks and skimmers in association with the General Oil Spill Booming Strategies produced for Geographic Response Plan mapping purposes as part of US Coast Guard sponsored Digital Area Contingency Plans for Oil Spill Response. Skimmer locations are on the water locations that oil is corralled into using boom and a floating mechanical device then skims the oil off of the surface of the water. Collection Point locations are those places on the shoreline that oil is corralled into using boom where a vacuum truck may be placed to vacuum the oil off of the water surface or places where it may have made landfall. These locations are different than "Natural Marine Debris Collection Locations", which are areas that have been identified from local knowledge that seaweed, garbage, and other marine debris typically accumulate due to natural weather processes.

</idAbs>
<idPurp>These data are part of a larger work termed Digital Area Contingency Plans (ACP) and Geographic Response Plans (GRPs) that consist of many layers of data used to produce maps for the planning purposes of preparing for oil spill response in a given region. Shown on these maps are sites identified as particularly sensitive to spilled oil, booming strategies to protect them, staging areas to deploy equipment and personel, areas to collect spilled oil, geographic features and names, socio-economic features and names, and other considerations neccesary in planning to respond to oil spilled on water in a given area.</idPurp>
