Layer: Black Bear Telemetry (ID: 11)

Name: Black Bear Telemetry

Display Field: Source

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPoint

Description: Data are combined from individual projects in Florida conducted by various parties that were willing to share their data. This spatial dataset shows point locations for Florida black bears (Ursus americanus floridanus) throughout Florida located using VHF radiocollars. Descriptive data, including type of telemetry (aerial or ground) and type of location (e.g., visual, den site, location of dead collared bear or dropped collar) were preserved, if available, in separate fields. Bears can be found in almost every Florida county, but these locations represent only those documented from radiocollared bears. These VHF telemetry locations were compiled from research studies conducted by FL Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), the University of Florida (UF), the University of Kentucky (UK), and the University of Tennessee (UT) and will be updated as future projects using VHF telemetry are completed
